Its 2AM -
How is your Web Farm?
Relax, let
PagePing monitor your critical web sites! Take a holiday!
Be notified of site failure before
the complaints
pour in.
PagePing monitors Web
sites/pages for failures. Up to ten sites or pages can be monitored
at selected intervals. Alerts are e-mailed on site failure (and
recovery). Each URL is fully configurable.
PagePing runs
as a true “Service” process on
Windows 2000 Professional thru to Windows 2003
Server Family). A second GUI program, the
PagePing Control Panel, allows for easy set-up of monitored sites.
Screenshot of the PagePing Control Panel.

Each Web site
can be individually configured as shown below.

System Requirements:
Windows 2000 / XP /
Server 2003 Family
PagePing
requires that the Internet Information Server SMTP component be
installed (so it can send out e-mail alerts), it is not necessary to
fully configure the SMTP service if
you simply wish to evaluate PagePing to see if it suits your needs.
However, be sure to tick the checkbox marked “Do not send e-mails” for
each monitored site! The PagePing Control Panel GUI application
provides plenty of feedback in the form of visual clues and statements
as to what is happening in the background.
Network Requirements:
Access to a mail
server to deliver e-mail alerts. This can be simple dial-up access to
your ISP mail server or for large Intranets, access to your
corporations (nearest) mail server(s). (Most corporate networks have
several anonymously accessible SMTP email servers). Again, this is
not necessary if you are simply evaluating PagePing. Microsoft
Windows 2000 Professional is suggested as the minimum fully functional
PagePing evaluation platform.
The help file
PagePing.chm contains a quick
start guide to Web server monitoring.
The unregistered version of
PagePing is free for you to try for up to thirty days from the date of
installation. PagePing will continue to function after this period;
however, you must purchase the registered version if you continue to
use the software. A short message at the top of each e-mail states
that it is unregistered. Other than this message, the product is, and
remains, fully functional. You may freely re-distribute PagePing for
others to try provided all the original package files are present.
Ho Hum.. So why
is PagePing different from all those other monitoring programs?
Glad you asked!!
1.)
Because PagePing runs as a true service application it runs 7x24x365, you don't need to be "logged-on" like
most other "VB based" / "System tray" programs. The PagePing Control
Panel, allows for easy set-up of monitored sites. PagePing runs on Windows
2000 / XP / 2003 (All versions).
2.)
PagePing reads ALL text on the page for your selected key-text
match - it does not just read the HTML headers like most "Enterprise
Monitoring Solutions" that I have worked with. They often simply
do a 'HEAD' HTTP request - very basic; Yet the licence for
these "Enterprise Solutions" are tens of thousands of dollars.
3.)
Some other monitoring programs often "false alarm" on content checks.
Yet others read a few lines and assume the page is ok... Not PagePing!
It demands the entire page before moving on to the next site.
4.)
Deep paths can be specified, not just the "Home Page". So, for
example, your Cold Fusion page buried deep down in the URL can be
easily monitored.
5.)
PagePing writes events to the Windows 2000 (or 2003 Server) System Event
Log. Find out statistical history of your web site (page) failures.
